Defensive Specialist Clinic

Hockey training for defencemen
AGES: U9-U14
FOR AAA, AA, A PLAYERS

BEAST Hockey’s Defensive Specialist Clinic is a small-group hockey development program designed specifically for defencemen who want to become more confident, composed, and effective in all areas of the position.

Each session is limited to a maximum of just eight players, creating an environment where defencemen receive more repetitions, more individual feedback, and more opportunities to work on the technical and tactical skills required to defend effectively and contribute to the transition game.

Designed for U10-U14 AAA, AA, and A players, BEAST Defensive Specialist Clinic provides focused position-specific hockey training for competitive defencemen looking to improve their skating, gap control, body positioning, stick positioning, puck movement, battle skills, and decision-making under pressure.

SMALL-GROUP DEFENCE TRAINING IN TORONTO

With only eight players on the ice, BEAST Defensive Specialist Clinic is built around quality repetitions and individual coaching. Players spend less time waiting in lines and more time working through realistic defensive situations, retrieving pucks, defending attackers, moving the puck, and developing the habits required to play the position effectively.

The small-group format also allows BEAST coaches to identify technical details, provide individual corrections, and challenge players based on their ability. For competitive defencemen, the additional repetitions and attention can help build confidence and create stronger habits that translate directly into games.

POSITION-SPECIFIC DEFENCE TRAINING

Similar to our BEAST defence camps, the Defensive Specialist Clinic is designed around the skills competitive defencemen need in every area of the ice.

Players will work on skating and footwork, gap control, angling, body and stick positioning, puck retrievals, first passes, puck protection, defending one-on-one situations, and making quick decisions under pressure.

The goal is to develop defencemen who are difficult to play against without sacrificing their ability to move the puck and contribute offensively. By combining technical development with game-relevant situations, BEAST Defensive Specialist Clinic helps players become more complete, confident, and reliable defencemen.

DEFEND, RETRIEVE AND MOVE THE PUCK

Playing defence is about more than stopping an attacking player. Modern defencemen need to recognize pressure, retrieve pucks efficiently, create separation, make a strong first pass, and help their team transition from defence to offence.

Sessions will challenge players to make decisions quickly while maintaining good positioning and puck control. Drills will recreate the situations defencemen regularly encounter in games, helping players learn when to pressure, when to contain, where to move the puck, and how to create an effective transition out of the defensive zone.

BEAST PASSES ARE TRANSFERABLE

Players who already participate in other BEAST hockey development programs have additional flexibility.

BEAST Power Hour and Skating with Brooklin passes can also be used for BEAST Defensive Specialist Clinic sessions.

That means eligible BEAST players can choose between skating-specific development, complete hockey skill development, offensive training through our Goal Scorer’s Clinic, and focused position-specific training through our Defensive Specialist Clinic depending on what they want to work on each week.

Our goal is to provide focused training opportunities for every aspect of hockey development.
