Body Checking & Contact Clinic
For 2013 and 2012 AA Hockey Players
Body checking is more than just physical contact — it is a learned hockey skill that requires proper technique, awareness, and confidence.
The BEAST Body Checking & Contact Skills Clinics are designed to teach players how to give and receive contact safely, legally, and effectively before bad habits form or confidence is lost. These small-group, position-aware sessions focus on building strong fundamentals that translate directly to game situations.
These sessions provide a professional, development-first environment where players learn to play the physical side of the game the right way. Whether preparing for first contact or refining existing skills, this program builds confidence, safety, and long-term success on the ice.

2013 Players – Intro to Contact (Pre-Contact Year)
This group is designed for hockey players entering their first body-contact season next year. The goal is to introduce contact in a controlled, educational environment where players learn how to protect themselves while gaining confidence.
The focus is on:
• Proper body positioning and angling
• Stick-on-puck habits before initiating contact
• Balance, edge control, and on-ice awareness
• Safely taking and giving contact
• Board play fundamentals
By learning these skills before contact is introduced in league play, athletes enter the season prepared rather than hesitant. The goal is for players to start their contact year confident, composed, and protected — ready to play physically without fear or uncertainty.
2012 Players – Contact Technique & Refinement
This group session is designed for players who have already completed their first season of body checking and are ready to refine their technique. This clinic focuses on improving effectiveness while reducing unnecessary penalties and risky habits.
Key areas of focus include:
• Timing, angles, and legal contact
• Puck battles and advanced board play
• Reducing penalties through smarter positioning
• Using leverage and body mechanics instead of force
• Staying composed and effective under pressure
The objective is smarter, cleaner, and more efficient physical play that helps players win battles without taking themselves out of the game. This approach allows athletes to be impactful physically while maintaining discipline and consistency.
